IMPORTANT: These are 3-year, grant-funded positions supported by the Colorado Department of Education School Counselor Corps Grant (SCCG). Continued employment beyond the grant period may be possible if future funding becomes available, but it is not guaranteed.
Temporary Educator Eligibility (TEE) Option
Applicants who have not yet completed licensure may qualify for employment through Colorado's Temporary Educator Eligibility (TEE) Authorization, which allows eligible candidates to work while completing their preparation program.

The Elementary School Counselor provides academic, social/emotional, and early career development services aligned to the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model within a comprehensive, data-driven counseling program.
This SCCG-funded role emphasizes building strong character, developing resilience, and fostering students' ability to collaborate effectively with peers and adults. The counselor's work focuses on supporting academic success and preparing students for secondary education by helping them develop the skills and dispositions necessary to succeed within the classroom environment.
The role also prioritizes:
Family partnership and engagement
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
Universal prevention programming and early intervention services
The counselor collaborates with educators, administrators, special services staff, families, and community partners to increase attendance, strengthen school readiness skills, support social-emotional development, and remove systemic barriers to student success.
This role includes responsibility for implementing all required SCCG data collection, evaluation, and reporting activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Development
Design and implement a developmentally appropriate, comprehensive school counseling program aligned to the ASCA National Model.
Deliver universal classroom lessons integrated with the school's PBIS framework that build character, resilience, and collaborative skills essential for academic success.
Develop targeted interventions through MTSS processes using attendance, behavior, engagement, and academic data.
Student Services
Provide individual and small-group counseling focused on:
Emotional regulation and resilience-building
Social skill development and collaboration
Executive functioning
Relationship building and character development
School readiness and academic support strategies
Skills and behaviors that support classroom success and preparation for secondary education
Participate in crisis response and community referrals as appropriate.
Family Partnership & Engagement
Lead family engagement initiatives addressing:
Attendance improvement strategies
School readiness support
Character development and resilience at home
Behavioral expectations and PBIS practices
Academic success strategies
Strengthening home–school partnerships
Serve as liaison between families, school staff, and community resources.
Collaboration & Leadership
Collaborate with educators, administrators, and special services teams.
Serve as a member of PBIS, MTSS, and school improvement leadership teams.
Lead data-informed problem-solving discussions focused on academic achievement and student readiness for secondary education.
SCCG Data Collection & Accountability
Conduct required data collection, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting aligned with Colorado Department of Education SCCG compliance requirements.
Additional Responsibilities
Perform other related duties as assigned that are consistent with the purpose of the SCCG program and the ASCA professional school counseling role.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Licensure
Master's Degree in School Counseling or related field required
Colorado Special Services Provider License with School Counselor endorsement —OR— Eligibility for Temporary Educator Eligibility (TEE) Authorization
Experience & Skills
Elementary or school-based counseling experience preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge of:
PBIS frameworks
MTSS interventions
Character development and resilience-building programming
Family partnership strategies
ASCA National Model
Strategies that support academic success and classroom engagement
Developmentally appropriate practices for preparing elementary students for secondary education
Physical Requirements
Frequent standing, walking, sitting, and bending.
Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
Ability to perform classroom instruction and group facilitation.
