Principal — Beaver Valley Elementary School
Position Title: Principal, Beaver Valley Elementary School
Reports To: Superintendent
Contract: 200 days; full time, exempt
Salary Range: $80,000 - $102,000 - commensurate with experience
Start Date: July 2026 (or as negotiated)

As a rural district serving approximately 1,200 students where over 60% qualify for free or reduced lunch, we believe high quality instruction is a moral imperative, not an aspiration.
The Principal of Beaver Valley Elementary is, first and foremost, the instructional leader of the school. This individual is responsible for guaranteeing that every child receives high quality, standards aligned instruction every day in every classroom. The principal ensures that teaching practices are grounded in evidence (e.g., cognitive science, science of reading) so all students have access to grade level content and rigor.
VISIONARY AND STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP
Prioritize improvement, communicate urgency, and drive results Serve as the primary instructional leader of Beaver Valley Elementary prioritizing observing instruction, providing real time feedback, and coaching teachers to improve practice.
Develop and execute a school improvement plan with measurable goals aligned to The Beetdigger Way and the district’s strategic plan
Use data purposefully to make instructional decisions and communicate progress transparently to staff, families, and other stakeholders.
Protect instructional time as sacred; minimize disruptions and maximize every student’s access to grade level core instruction.
Sustain a clear vision for what excellent instruction looks like at Beaver Valley aligned with district goals.
Attend leadership meetings and provide honest, timely updates on building level successes and challenges.
DEVELOPING AND LEVERAGING TALENT
Recruit, grow, retain, and support the best educators recruit, hire, and retain high quality teachers and support staff who are committed to evidence based instruction and believe all students can achieve at high levels.
Lead instructional coaching and conduct regular classroom walkthroughs, deliver actionable, timely feedback, and facilitate follow up conversations focused on student outcomes.
Lead ongoing, job embedded professional development grounded in the science of learning.
Build teacher capacity to deliver strong Tier 1 instruction Identify and develop teacher leaders and support peer coaching structures within the building.
Conduct meaningful, standards based evaluations (aligned to the Colorado State Model Evaluation System)
Support teachers directly, compassionately, and promptly in continuous learning of effective instructional strategies
INSTRUCTIONAL EXCELLENCE AND TRANSFORMATION
Ensure high quality, grade level instruction for every student, every day
Champion and protect students’ access to grade level, standards aligned instruction in every classroom.
Lead the implementation of high quality instructional materials (HQIM) with fidelity, including district adopted curricula, ensuring teachers receive the training and support needed to use materials as designed.
Ensure literacy instruction is grounded in the science of reading, knowledge building, and structured literacy principles across all grade levels
Establish and monitor a guaranteed and viable curriculum: clearly define what students must learn at each grade level, ensure adequate instructional time, and verify through classroom observation that the written, taught, and assessed curricula are aligned.
Lead collaborative planning where teachers analyze student work and assessment data regularly, adjust instruction based on evidence, and support teachers in planning targeted tier two interventions in the classroom, maintaining grade level rigor.
Monitor instructional quality through consistent classroom observations aligned to the district’s instructional focus areas

Build a culture of high expectations, trust, and shared ownership
Establish and sustain a school culture rooted in high expectations for every student and every adult
Build authentic, trusting relationships with students, families, and community members
Implement consistent, school wide systems for positive behavior, attendance, and social emotional learning that keep students in classrooms and connected to instruction.
Lead regular family and community engagement initiatives
Foster a professional culture among staff built on mutual accountability, collaboration, intellectual honesty, and a shared commitment to continuous improvement
Model vulnerability, transparency, and a growth mindset; openly share student achievement data with staff and families and engage them as partners in problem solving.
ORGANIZATIONAL MANAGEMENT AND OPERATIONS
Manage systems and resources so that instructional priorities are protected
While instructional leadership is the primary function of the principalship, the effective operation of a school is essential to creating the conditions where great teaching and learning can occur. The principal is responsible for managing the organizational systems that support the instructional mission.
Develop and manage the school budget responsibly, aligning resource allocation decisions to instructional priorities and ensuring fiscal accountability in a period of enrollment decline and budget constraints.
Build and maintain a master schedule that maximizes instructional time, protects collaborative planning periods for teachers, and eliminates scheduling practices that limit student access to grade level content.
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and district requirements, including special education (IDEA), Title programs, English learner services, Section 504, and required reporting timelines.
Oversee day to day building operations, including facilities, safety, transportation coordination, food services, and technology to ensure a safe, clean, and functional learning environment.
Manage human resource functions at the building level, including timely and accurate completion of personnel documentation, onboarding of new staff, substitute coordination, and leave management.
Maintain clear and organized systems for communication, documentation, and record keeping that support transparency and operational efficiency.
Develop and maintain the school’s safety and crisis response plans, conduct required drills, and serve as the building level point of contact for emergency management.
Collaborate with district office staff on operational matters, contributing to district wide initiatives while ensuring building level needs are communicated and addressed.
Coordinate district and state assessments for Beaver Valley
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Colorado Principal License (or eligibility for licensure)
Minimum of three (3) years of successful classroom teaching experience
Minimum of two (2) years of school level instructional leadership experience
Demonstrated knowledge of the science of reading and cognitive science
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field
Proven track record of improving student outcomes through high quality Tier 1 instruction
Experience with Multi Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and data driven decision making
Experience leading in rural school communities
Experience leading in linguistically diverse settings
Familiarity with high quality instructional materials adoption and implementation

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The principal will work in a school environment that requires regular movement throughout the building, including classrooms, hallways, playground, cafeteria, and outdoor spaces. The position involves extended periods of standing and walking during instructional observations and school events. Evening and weekend commitments for school and community events are expected. The role requires the ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities in a fast paced environment while maintaining focus on the core work of instructional leadership.
