Salary: Salary placement on our Certified Salary schedule is dependent on the employee’s education and/or work experience. Certified/licensed employees will be granted one (1) year for each full year of contractual and/or work experience up to a maximum of ten (10) years, which includes in-district and out-of-district contractual teaching and/or work experience. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Required:
• Valid Colorado teaching license with appropriate endorsement or ability to obtain.
• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree.
• Highly qualified as determined by state criteria for music education.
Preferred:
• Prior Band Directing experience.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/Objective:
Direct and manage the overall program of instrumental music for the district and provide students with opportunities to participate in co-curricular band activities such as concerts, festivals, pep-band, and competitions. The Middle/High School Band Director will teach two sections of 6th grade Beginning Band and one section of Advanced 7/8 grade Band at the Middle School. The High School portion of the job consists of a zero hour Jazz Ensemble as well as one High School Instrumental group which covers Pep Band and Concert remainder of the year. The Band Director will also direct a High School Pep Band available for athletic events throughout the school year.
Essential Functions and Characteristics:
• Direct MS and HS instrumental performers, including concert band, marching band, and jazz ensemble.
• Provide for band participation at extracurricular (evening) events, including concerts, sporting events, festivals, and competitions.
• Plan and oversee travel and lodging for out-of-town events such as state marching competitions and periodic HS band trips.
• Oversee and maintain MS and HS band budgets as well as student fundraising accounts.
• Maintain current inventory of all fixed assets (such as instruments) within the department.
• Oversee process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all band equipment.
• Develop and implement plans for the instructional music program that are in line with district goals and state music standards.
• Employ a variety of research based instructional strategies, technology, and instructional media.
• Conduct ongoing assessments of student progress throughout the program.
• Apply and enforce student discipline in accordance with the MS and HS Student Handbooks.
• Create a positive, inclusive environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of a diverse body of students.
• Assess the performance of students and plan for and adjust instruction and curriculum as necessary on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
• Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative procedures.
• Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
• Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as appropriate to the individual school site or district.
• Must be responsive to the suggestions of administration.
• Maintain confidentiality when and where it is necessary.
• Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
