Position Summary
The K–12 Music Teacher provides sequential, standards-aligned music instruction across all grade levels. This position serves as the heart of La Veta's performing arts program, directing general music offerings K–12 while building a visible, celebratory presence in the school and community. As a rural school, La Veta has invested in guitars, pianos, and drums and other mallet instruments. Students in grades K-7 attend music weekly, while students in grades 8 – 12 may elect to take a class. Students are expected to learn to read music and keep time prior to the conclusion of their 7th grade year. The successful candidate will bring energy, flexibility, and a belief that every student can grow through music.
Minimum Qualifications
Valid Colorado teaching license with appropriate music endorsement (or eligibility for Colorado licensure)
Bachelor's degree in Music Education or related field
Demonstrated ability to instruct across multiple grade bands (elementary through secondary)
Strong classroom management and student engagement skills
Commitment to inclusive, differentiated music instruction
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Deliver engaging, standards-based music instruction in general music, band, choir, or a combination across K–12
Plan and direct seasonal performances and community events including concerts and school assemblies
Maintain an organized, well-managed classroom environment aligned to the district's C.L.A.W.S. behavioral expectations
Collaborate with grade-level and content-area teams to support integrated learning experiences
Maintain accurate records including grades, attendance, and equipment inventory
Participate in professional development, staff meetings, peer coaching cycles, and district initiatives
Communicate regularly with families about student progress and upcoming events
Support the district's SEL framework (Wayfinder) and positive school culture
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal or Superintendent
Preferred Qualifications
Experience directing school band, choir, or performing arts programs
Proficiency in multiple instruments or vocal music
Experience in a rural or small school setting
Demonstrated ability to build community partnerships around the performing arts
Compensation & Benefits
Salary placement is determined by the La Veta RE-2 adopted certified staff salary schedule based on lane (BA/MA/PhD) and verified years of licensed experience. Full benefits package including PERA retirement, health, and voluntary dental and vision insurance.
