Location: Glenwood Springs Middle School
Reports to: Glenwood Springs Middle School Principal
Classification: Certified Exempt - Full-Time (1.0 FTE / 40 hours per week) 
Contract Period: 185 working days.

Salary Range
*$54,000 to $82,320 (Based on education and years of relevant teaching experience) *The annual salary listed above is based on a full-time, 8-hour workday (FTE 1) and a full working calendar. For positions with less than a full FTE or reduced hours, such as part-time or late-start positions, the salary will be prorated accordingly.

Position Overview
The Art Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering engaging, standards-based art instruction to students. This position fosters a creative and supportive classroom environment where students are encouraged to explore artistic expression, develop technical skills, and gain an appreciation for the visual arts. The teacher will integrate a variety of media and artistic styles while incorporating cross-curricular connections and cultural relevance.

Necessary Credentials
Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution in Art Education, Fine Arts, or a related field.
MUST have an active Colorado Teaching License in Visual Arts K-12  [or similar] or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment. If additional coursework or a preparation program is required, the applicant must provide proof of enrollment and submission of the required documentation to the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) within 30 days of employment.
Official transcripts must be provided upon hire. For international transcripts, an evaluation is required through a member organization of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES).

Key Responsibilities
Foster an inclusive classroom culture that encourages creativity, self-expression, and respect for diverse artistic traditions.
Manage art materials, maintain a clean and organized classroom, and ensure student safety.
Organize student artwork displays.
Collaborate with grade-level and specials team teachers to support interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
Maintain communication with parents and guardians about student progress and classroom activities.
Participate in school-wide events, staff meetings, and professional development activities.

Desired Core Competencies and Qualifications
Previous experience teaching art at the middle school level is preferred.
Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
Ability to inspire and connect with early adolescents through creative instruction.
Flexible and resourceful, able to tailor teaching methods to accommodate a wide range of student abilities, backgrounds, and learning needs, ensuring each student receives the support they need to thrive.
Open to coaching and feedback, continuously reflecting on and refining teaching practices to enhance student outcomes and promote professional growth.
A strong commitment to values-based instruction, demonstrating leadership that prioritizes equity, inclusivity, and high standards of professionalism.
A deep sense of personal responsibility and passion for making a positive impact on all students, striving to improve their academic achievement and overall success.

Physical Requirements 
May include standing and walking for extended periods; bending, stooping, and lifting materials; reaching for supplies on high shelves; using manual dexterity for tasks like writing and using technology; communicating clearly and effectively with students; and climbing stairs in multi-level buildings.
