POSITION SUMMARY:
The Elementary Behavior Interventionist supports students' social, emotional, and behavioral development by implementing research-based behavioral interventions and supports aligned with district expectations and Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) practices. This position works collaboratively with classroom teachers, special education staff, paraprofessionals, and administrators to support students who demonstrate behavioral challenges that impact learning and school engagement. The Behavior Interventionist assists with the implementation of behavior intervention plans, collects and analyzes behavioral data, and provides coaching and support to staff in the implementation of effective behavioral strategies that promote positive behavior, safe learning environments, and student success.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES 
Behavioral Intervention & Student Support
• Implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and positive behavioral supports for students receiving special education services and other identified behavioral interventions.
• Provide Tier II and Tier III behavioral supports within the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework.
• Work directly with students to teach replacement behaviors, self-regulation strategies, and appropriate social-emotional skills.
• Support students in all school environments to promote engagement, safety, and positive behavior.
• Assist with the development and implementation of Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) when appropriate.
• Support students during behavioral escalations using approved de-escalation and crisis prevention strategies.


Data Collection, Monitoring & Reporting
• Collect observable behavioral data using a variety of data collection methods.
• Monitor and document student progress toward behavioral goals and intervention strategies.
• Prepare behavioral reports, summaries, and visual data displays for IEP meetings, MTSS meetings, and school team reviews.
• Assist with documentation required for behavioral intervention plans and special education compliance.
• Use behavioral data to support problem-solving processes and guide instructional and behavioral interventions.

Classroom Environment, Safety & Student Well-Being
• Support the implementation of proactive classroom management strategies and positive behavior supports aligned with district expectations.
• Assist teachers and staff in maintaining safe and productive classroom environments.
• Provide supervision and behavioral support during classroom activities, transitions, recess, lunch, and other school settings when necessary.
• Promote student safety, emotional regulation, and positive peer interactions.
• Assist in implementing safety procedures and behavioral response strategies when students demonstrate behavioral challenges.
• Report suspected child abuse or neglect as required by law.

Collaboration & Communication
• Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, school counselors, paraprofessionals, and administrators to support student behavioral needs.
• Provide coaching and guidance to teachers and staff regarding the implementation of behavior plans and behavioral strategies.
• Participate actively in MTSS/RtI meetings, IEP meetings, behavior team meetings, and other student support meetings.
• Assist school teams in identifying and implementing appropriate behavioral interventions and supports.
• Communicate effectively and professionally with parents/guardians regarding student behavioral progress and support strategies when appropriate.
• Participate in student and family conferences and other meetings as required.

• Comply with all applicable federal and Colorado laws, Board of Education policies, Superintendent policies, and district and school procedures.
• Demonstrate consistent, punctual attendance and fulfill contractual obligations.
• Protect and care for district property and materials.
• Utilize district technology systems, including email and internet, in accordance with district policy.
• Successfully complete required district training, including Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), and implement approved de-escalation and crisis response strategies.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal, Superintendent, or designee.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
• Knowledge of child development and behavioral development in elementary-aged students.
• Knowledge of research-based behavioral intervention practices and positive behavior supports.
• Knowledge of Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and RtI behavioral intervention processes.
• Knowledge of Colorado and federal laws related to special education and student services.
• Ability to collect, interpret, and present behavioral data in an organized and understandable format.
• Ability to support teachers and staff in implementing behavioral interventions and classroom management strategies.
• Ability to work effectively with students who demonstrate behavioral, social-emotional, or academic challenges.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively and effectively as part of a professional team.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to frequent interruptions.
• Ability to recognize the importance of safety, follow safety procedures, and respond appropriately during behavioral crises.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with completion of an approved teacher licensure program.
• Valid Colorado Teaching License, Colorado Special Services Provider License, or enrollment in an appropriate licensure program.
• Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification within two months of employment.
• CPR and First Aid certification within two months of employment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Previous experience as a classroom teacher, special education teacher, interventionist, or behavior specialist.
• Experience working with school-age children in educational or behavioral support settings.
• Experience implementing behavioral interventions and data collection systems.
• Multilingual skills.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
• Physical ability to perform essential job functions, including standing, walking, sitting, and occasional lifting.
• Ability to move throughout school environments including classrooms, hallways, and outdoor areas.
• Ability to implement CPI-trained de-escalation strategies and support student safety during behavioral incidents in accordance with district policy.
• Supervision of students in various settings, including classrooms and outdoor play areas.
