Job Description: Food Service Director / School Nutrition Director

Reports To: Superintendent or Designee

Position Summary

The Food Service Director oversees all aspects of the district’s school nutrition program, ensuring students receive high-quality, nutritious meals in a safe and efficient environment while maintaining compliance with all regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Manage department budget, purchasing, and inventory

Plan and oversee menus, meal preparation, and service at all schools

Ensure compliance with USDA, health, and safety standards

Supervise, hire, and evaluate food service staff

Monitor cafeteria operations, accounting, and audits

Oversee federal meal program applications, reimbursements, and commodities

Conduct site visits and ensure consistency across all locations

Qualifications

Must meet USDA requirements for School Nutrition Director

Strong computer skills (POS/nutrition software preferred)

ServSafe Manager Certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days)

Valid driver’s license with ability to travel between sites

Experience in food service or kitchen management preferred

Ability to multitask and maintain confidentiality

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

Work is performed in school kitchens/cafeterias and requires standing for long periods, lifting up to 50 lbs., and frequent movement between sites.
