General Job Description:

The Superintendent is responsible for the general operation of the Las Animas School District. This
includes, but is not limited to, various programs, policy and procedure, special projects, maintenance
and Unified School Improvement- SCAP (Student Centered Accountability Program). The
Superintendent oversees the operation of the Las Animas School District, by working with the Board
of Education, directors, coordinators, principals, and building staff to build vision, set priorities, and
develop long and short-range plans for the day-to-day operation of the Las Animas School District
This position reports directly to the Las Animas Board of Education
Salary Range: $120,000-$140,000 annually
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s Degree, Principals License or a Colorado Administrator license.
5 years Educational Leadership Experience
Duties and Responsibilities: This position will consist of multiple duties within the
District.
1). The Superintendent shall help establish and implement district strategic priorities as they
align with the District Mission and Vision.
The Superintendent will assist and monitor the implementation plan for achieving district
goals.

● Work with principals, coordinators, directors, and building staff to build vision,
set priorities, and develop long and short-range plans for the day-to-day operation
of the school district.
● Work collaboratively with principals and accountability committees to develop
the district and building level Unified Improvement Plan.
● Oversee various operations-special projects of the school district.
● Attends Board of Education meetings in open and executive sessions as required.
● Assumes such other responsibilities and performs other duties as may be assigned
by the Board of Education.

2). The Superintendent will facilitate communication and collaboration with the board of
Education and establish and maintain effective relationships with school personnel and
engage the external community.

● Establish expectations for collaboration, compliance with district policy and
procedures, and quality continuous improvement (UIP/SCAP).
● Work effectively with parents to address needs and concerns.
● Provide leadership for positive conflict resolution for schools, parents, students
and staff.
● Assumes such other responsibilities and performs other duties as may be assigned
by the Board of Education.

3). The Superintendent will identify, prioritize, recommend, and follow policies
And governance procedures that maintain a focus on the central goal —
Mission and Vision Statement- Strategic Priorities.

● Troubleshoot unanticipated problems related to the operation of the school
district.
● Provide leadership in the development, writing and implementation of policies
and procedures for the school district.
● Ensure that the district operations are in compliance with federal, state and local
requirements and reflect the best thinking and practices of educators and
professionals in their respective fields.
● Oversee the development of the Unified Improvement Plan
● Oversee state and private grant acquisitions.
● Organize and lead committees as requested by the Board of Education.

4) The Superintendent will assist principals in creating a district culture and
expectations that support effective instructional practices and student learning
through data-based decision making at all levels of the system.

● Attend meetings of K-12 principals
● Responsible for Las Animas School District curriculum instruction materials
● Assist in moving the district toward developing a comprehensive professional
development program for teaching staff at all levels.
● Assists in the organization and implementation of In-service and professional
development.
● Assumes such other responsibilities and performs other duties as may be assigned
by the Board of Education.

5). The Superintendent will focus on financial, human, time, material, technological and
Facility resources in support of district goals. They support individuals at all levels in the
district and assume that the central office is a support and service organization for the
schools.

● Supervise the performance of those delegated by the Board of Education.
● Assists the Principals in the development and distribution of building and
department budgets and manages expenditures as requested.
● Participate as needed and/or requested in the selection and orientation of staff.
● Plans for resources required for the future to support operations, personnel, and
facilities and develops updates on school district operations and presents to the
Board of Education.
● Serve as liaison to various community and other school district projects and
groups within the county.
● Seek outside resources and recognitions for the school district by supporting staff
that apply for grants and awards.
● Work closely with the Human Resources and Principals in the employment,
dismissal, reassignment, and periodic evaluation of classified personnel, with
recommendations for action.
