Title: Custodian
Reports to: Maintenance Director
Terms of Employment: 9-Month position, 24 hours a week, Monday – 8am-4pm,
Tuesday through Friday – 4pm-8pm – Beginning July 30, 2026

Extra Duty pay available for extra-curricular activities such as coaching, drama

Specific Duties
1. Assists Maintenance with an array of tasks.
2. Respond to and resolve a variety of problems that arise during the course of a
workday.
3. Maintain safety standards in accordance with district, county, state, and insurance
regulations and requirements.

4. Ensure the proper cleaning of district buildings. This includes the ability to work
with various chemicals and follow disinfection procedures as prescribed by the
District, Maintenance Director and/or local Health Department.
5. Ensure cleaning equipment is in proper working order and perform basic and
routine equipment maintenance as needed.
6. Advise the Maintenance Director of building hazards or potentially dangerous
situations.
7. Assist the Maintenance Director in the setup and teardown of various school
functions and activities.
8. Assist the Maintenance Director in the ordering of janitorial and maintenance
supplies as well as the tracking of inventory items.
9. Attend appropriate staff meetings and training for effective job performance.
10. Performs minor maintenance tasks and repairs in the Maintenance Director’s
absence.
11. Act as the point of contact in the Maintenance Director’s absence for various
contractor needs, service related or other official needs of the school district.
12. Performs security checks - doors locked, keys controlled, chemicals and equipment
safely and securely stored, maintains awareness of security problems and risks.
13. Perform other services as may be assigned by the Maintenance Director or building
principals to expedite the custodial and minor maintenance needs of the district.
14. Conduct snow removal in support of the school district, including during snow
days.
15. Performs additional duties as assigned.
Physical Demands: Must be able to stand, walk, kneel, crouch, bend, stoop, reach,
twist, push, pull or carry up to 50 pounds. Repetitive motion is often required in the
performance of daily tasks. Must have the ability to work on ladders, with machinery,
hand tools and confined spaces, and in close contact with chemicals.
Work Environment: Projects and tasks occur in a variety of indoor and outdoor
facility conditions under occasional inclement or distressing conditions. Additionally,
capacity and tolerance for indoor/outdoor temperature and weather fluctuations.
Equipment Used: Use of cleaning equipment, including floor cleaning machines,
carpet cleaning machines, electronic disinfection sprayers, mops, brooms, scrubbing
tools, dusters, etc. on a daily basis or as needed. This position may require the
employee to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, coldweather
clothing) in the course of their employment.
