Salary: Salary placement on our Certified Salary schedule is dependent on the employee’s education and/or work experience. Certified/licensed employees will be granted one (1) year for each full year of contractual and/or work experience up to a maximum of ten (10) years, which includes in-district and out-of-district contractual teaching and/or work experience. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Required:
• Valid Colorado teaching license with appropriate endorsement or ability to obtain.
• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree 
• Highly qualified as determined by state criteria for secondary English Language Arts.
• Must be able to speak, read and understand English.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/Objective:
The 7-8 Grade ELA Writing teacher provides instruction consistent with Colorado’s English Language Arts standards with a specific emphasis on teaching writing. This position consists of two 7th grade writing classes and four 8th grade writing classes. The 7-8 Grade ELA Writing teacher will collaborate with the 6-7 grade writing teacher as well as the two reading teachers to ensure that students receive complete and comprehensive instruction in English Language Arts. 

Essential Functions and Characteristics:
• Possess a deep understanding of English Language Arts content (reading and writing) and be able to successfully implement the State ELA standards.
• Be able to work collaboratively with colleagues to develop common assessments, analyze a variety of student data and work samples, and be willing to help develop/maintain a standards-based ELA program.
• Employ a variety of research based instructional strategies, technology and instructional media.
• Employ positive reinforcement and disciplinary techniques consistent with PBIS in order to create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
• Be able to create a positive learning atmosphere for a diverse, and inclusive student population
• Establish and implement the learning process toward the achievement of district standards and in congruence with those standards, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects.
• Assess the performance of students, plan for and adjust instruction and curriculum as necessary on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative procedures.
• Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
• Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as appropriate to the individual school site or district.
• Team player willing and able to be involved in the programmatic, co-curricular, and/or extra-curricular programs available in the school district. 
• Establish and maintain an effective partnership with the building principal and district leadership.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
